To the Year of 2016

Dear 2016,

This will be the third time I’ve written to you, but I try to write this not only on my behalf, but to the people out there who may or may not read this. I, along with others, are pretty much done with you. You’ve caused a lot of pain for people, but you’ve also helped many others to experience love in the process.

If you were a human being, I would be more than willing to punch you..of course, I probably wouldn’t. I’d certainly dream of it though. You’ve allowed me to grow as a person. I’ve learned to adapt to changes and know that it’s OK to feel alone sometimes because that can help a person figure out where their heart lies as well.  Taking care of yourself and remembering self-love is the most important thing a person can do for themselves. Loving others no matter where they go is the second most important thing a person can do for not only their loved ones but the world around them.

The saying ‘you win some and you lose some’ definitely applies to this year, but the way I look at it, you can also lose some and then win some. Maybe that’s too generic of a saying, but in a way it makes sense. This year has been the year of love and loss. In the midst of losing something, whether through friendship or death, a person can gain so much more. You’ve taught people that it will be hard at first, but in the end they can gain knowledge from that and do what they must to learn that they can control who they are and what they want. They just have to remember to stay true to who they are.

We’ve learned to love the beauty of life more and to continue to love others more because no matter how much can happen, a life change in an instance. Of course that goes for every day of our existence, but this year was unique in itself (just something about it, if you readers know what I mean). We were taught that even if we wanted one scenario happened that we weren’t prepared for, we have to make the best out of it and continue to fight for what we believe in. This world will continue to adapt to changes and we as humans need to be prepared for that. If we want the best for ourselves and the people around us, then maybe we can learn to love more in the process.

2016, what more can we say to a year that has completely opened our eyes to so much more than what we thought existed? Humans have to understand that as this world continues to become inhabited by more of us, that we need to learn what is best for us. To 2017, expect the unexpected. No matter what you do in life, nothing is guaranteed or written in stone. Continue to love more of who you are and what you do. Continue to explore, because the world has so much to offer. Lastly, continue to learn more from what you’ve witnessed of this year. Hopefully, it will teach us how to care more for each other.

To 2017, in hopes that you bring the best to everyone.
